Association Between Low T3 Syndrome and Arterial Stiffness in Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis Patients

چکیده
Methods: We determined the levels of serum soluble Klotho in 58 continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) patients using ELISA and investigated the relationship between the level of Klotho and markers of CKD-mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD) and the abdominal aortic calcification score (AAC), a marker of vascular calcification. Results: Fifty CAPD patients (86.2%) had abdominal aortic calcification. The serum Klotho level significantly correlated with the 25-hydroxyvitamin D level and inversely correlated with AAC, serum phosphorus and FGF23, not correlated with the parathyroid hormone, bone-specific alkaline phosphatase (BAP), and serum calcium levels. There were significant decreases in serum Klotho in patients with abdominal aortic calcification of ACI > 8. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that lower serum soluble Klotho level and FGF23 were independent risk factor for abdominal aortic calcification. ROC-AUC of serum soluble Klotho for abdominal aortic calcification was 0.81 (cut-off 153.78 pg/mL, accuracy 87.5%, specificity 58.0%). Conclusion: Decreases in the serum soluble Klotho levels are independently associated with vascular calcification in peritoneal dialysis patients. Further research exploringwhether therapeutic approaches tomaintain or elevate the Klotho level could improve vascular calcification in peritoneal dialysis patients is warranted.

Correlation between Ultrafiltration Coefficient and Effective Lymphatic Absorption Rate in Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis Patients: A Possible Paradigm Shift
Background: The relative contribution of transcapillary water movement and lymphatic reabsorption in peritoneal dialysis (PD) is a critical issue, particularly in patients with ultrafiltration failure (UFF). Based on routine results obtained from the PD Adequest 2.0 software, the present study aimed to re-evaluate the separate effects of transcapillary water movement and lymphatic reabsorption ...
متن کاملSubclinical hypothyroidism is linked to micro-inflammation and predicts death in continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis.
BACKGROUND Low T3 is a frequent alteration in patients with ESRD. This derangement has been recently linked to inflammation in haemodialysis patients. Whether this association holds true in peritoneal dialysis patients has not been studied. METHODS We investigated the relationship between low-grade inflammation [IL-6, C-reactive protein (CRP) and serum albumin levels] and free tri-iodothyroni...
متن کاملRelationship between serum albumin and pulse wave velocity in patients on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis
BACKGROUND Hypoalbuminemia is a risk factor for cardiovascular events and mortality in dialysis patients, but the underlying mechanism remains unclear. Meanwhile, increased pulse wave velocity (PWV), the marker of arterial stiffness, has been proved to be an independent predictor of cardiovascular disease. The relationship between serum albumin and PWV in continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialys...

Background: Peritoneal dialysis is one of the most commonly used treatment methods for the patients with end stage renal failure. In recent years, the mortality rate of patients under this treatment has decreased; however, long-term survival is still an important challenge for health systems. The present study aimed to predict the survival of continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis patients. ...
متن کاملThe influence of dialytic modality on arterial stiffness, pulse wave reflections, and vasomotor function.
BACKGROUND Measurements of aortic stiffness [aortic pulse wave velocity (PWV) and augmentation index (Alx)] have been established as powerful predictors of survival on hemodialysis (HD). Abnormal endothelial-dependent and endothelial-independent vascular reactivity and increased arterial stiffness are commonly described in HD patients. There is, however, a lack of information on the comparative...
